Q

Summarize the book of Joshua

A

The book of Joshua starts with Joshua leading the Israelites into the Promised land and seeing that it’s occupied by Canaanites. Then he sends spies in, to see what’s going on, Just like Moses tried to (but Joshua did it way better). Then, the Israelites and Canaanites have plenty of battles (including the famous walls of Jericho scenario). Then, once the Israelites finally have their Promised Land to themselves, Joshua divides up the land for the 12 tribes of Israel. The book ends with Joshua’s final speech before death, which is similar to Moses’. It contains a message of hope for them if they continue to follow God and fulfill his plan, but also a warning for if they don’t

Q

What are some parallels between Joshua and Moses?

A

Joshua was Moses’ successor, so naturally, they were pretty similar. They both lead the Israelites into the promised land, they both sent spies into enemy territory (even though Joshua’s attempt at this went a lot better), they were both loyal servants of God, even though they both made a few mistakes, and they both had an inspiring final speech to the Israelites that came with both a vision of hope and a warning
