When are people with rubella infectious?
A
7 days before and 7 days after rash onset

How does rubella infx present in mum?
A
mild malaise, headache, coryza, lymphadenopathy, fine maculopapular rash

When is risk to fetus highest?
A
1st trimester
Risk of infx - 90%
Risk of congenital defects 90%

Fetal manifestation of rubella?
A
Deafness, learning disability, cardiac malformations, eye defects

How to test for rubella?
A
IgM
IgG - everyone tested at start of pregnancy. Usually present 1 week after rash
IgG avidity - low avidity suggests recent infx

When should you consider TOP?
A
Infx in first 12 weeks given high risk of infx and severe malformation
