Clinical features of measles?
rash, coryza, conjunctivitis, pneumonia, otitis media, encephalitis
barky cough
Incubation period?
7-21 days
Infectious from 4 days before to 4 days after rash
Risks of measles in pregnancy?
fetal loss, pre-term delivery
NO evidence of congenital defects
maternal morbidity due to pneumonitis
How to manage measles contact in pregnancy?
If unvaccinated and ab neg OR single vaccination AND/OR no previous infx - offer HNIG
Can be used up to 6 days from exposure
Which fetuses need HNIG PEP?
Neonates with recent in utero exposure - e.g. those born to mothers who develop a measles rash 6 days before to 6 days after delivery
Infants < 6months who have had significant exposure
Passive maternal immunity only lasts 2-3 months
