FGM needs reporting to police in which cases?
FGM confirmed in girl <18 – report to police within in month of confirmation
If woman with FGM identified and LOW risk?
Data recording in medical record
Document in Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) FGM enhanced data set
No need to report to police
If woman with FGM identified in pregnancy and HIGH risk on assessment?
Report to social services/police
Document in child’s red book
If baby girl - notify child protection midwife, GP and health visitor
When should de-infibulation be offered?
1) Before pregnancy/ first intercourse
2) Antenatally at 20 weeks, 1st stage of labour, time of delivery
3) Peri-operatively at time of CS OR at gynae/FGM OP post-natally
