RNA to protein Flashcards
What are 5 characteristics of the codon?
- 3 bases= one codon= one amino acid
- The code is non overlapping
- Degenerate code
- Start codon= Aug= Met
- Stop codon- UAA, UAG, UGA
How is wobble base pairing achieved?
Deamination of adenine to create an inosine
Inosine can pair to U,C or A
What happens to an amino acid before it forms an aminoacyl-tRNA
A synthetase primes the amino acid by adding AMP to the C terminus
What does peptidyl transferase do?
Catalyses the amino acid addition to the growing protein strand
What does EF1 do?
Causes a delay before the peptidyl transferase can act
- GTP hydrolysed to GDP
- EF1 dissociates from the tRNA
What happens at the start of translation?
tRNA carrying Met with EIF2 binds to small subunit
What binds to mRNA that still has a cap and a tail?
EIF-4G and EIF-4E
Structural components of HS60?
Hydrophobic entrance
GroES cap
What are amyloid plaques seen in?
Alzheimers- cross beta filaments
