Health
General state of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Safety
Condition in which the physical well-being of people if protected.
Security
Protection of employees and organizational facilities.
Ergonomics
Study and design of the work environment to address physical demands placed on individuals.
Cumulative trauma disorders
(CTDs) Muscle and skeletal injuries that occur when workers repetitively use the same muscles to perform tasks.
Substance Abuse
Use of illicit substances or misuse of controlled substances, alcohol, or other drugs.
Health promotion
Supportive approach of facilitating and encouraging healthy actions and lifestyles among employees.
Wellness programs
Programs designed to maintain or improve employee health before problems arise.
Employee assistance program
(EAP) Program that provides counseling and other help to employees having emotional, physical, and other personal problems.
Workplace incivility
Rude behavior that offends other employees.
Security audit
Comprehensive review of organizational security.
Restructuring
Used to ramp up for new programs, eliminate redundancies, or ineffective processes in order to increase production or reduce costs.
Expansion
Though generally considered to be positive, can produce substantial stress on an organization especially if an organization is changing from “mom/pop” culture to corporate culture.
Reduction
also known as reduction in force (RIF). Is used to reduce cost or size or organization.
