Q

Right Turn Procedure Pointers

A
  1. When turning right your last check is to the left. That is the way you will enter. When glancing right look for traffic passing in your lane or any special situations
  2. When positioning your car to turn right, use the space well. If there is not a curb or have a “fanned road” use that space. If the curb is squared off stay as far away from him as possible you will then have more room to turn
  3. Remember the closer you are to a curb the further out and slower you must go to begin and complete your turn
  4. Always stop where you can see but never enter the crossroad. Lean forward if you must.
  5. Use hand-over-hand steering. Plan your steering according to speed and position. Make sure to make a precision turn in the proper lane
  6. Always make the following consideration: (1) on-coming traffic turning left ;(2) traffic emerging from private property; (3) left turning traffic (from your right) cutting their turn short into your path
  7. Always scan the intersection for potential hazards: (1) lights; (2) signs; (3) lane marking; (4) traffic; (5) pedestrian
  8. Always ANTICIPATE and PLAN AHEAD

Q

Left Turn Procedure Pointers

A
  1. When making a left hand turn always go to the middle of the intersection and wait for oncoming traffic. Leave room for others cars to operate. Never cut into someone else’s path
  2. If there is no stop sign do the following: (1) keep moving if possible- your momentum will be to your advantage of there is a gap in oncoming traffic; (2) move into the middle of the intersection into a position to make your turn; (3) remember that you may turn left while oncoming traffic is turning to their left- but watch out for traffic behind the oncoming traffic passing on the right
  3. Always glance to the left and down the lane you want to enter. This technique will locate your path and also show you potential dangers
  4. Always make the following considerations: (1) oncoming traffic- you must yield to it; (2) when turning, get precisely in the first available lane; (3) you must watch out for people on the curb who will enter traffic as oncoming traffic- they also have a green light
  5. If there is a stop sign do the following: (1) if there is oncoming they should also have a stop sign- right of way rules are now in effect; (2) never preturn into a left turn; (3) make last check to the right as you begin to turn left to be sure lane is clear
  6. Always scan the intersection for potential hazards: (1) lights; (2) signs; (3) lane markings; (4) traffic; (5) pedestrians
  7. Always ANTICIPATE and PLAN AHEAD
