- Time is the only remedy

Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC)
- The amount of alcohol in the blood
- Legal intoxication is at .08%
- Not the same as DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) which is legal drunkenness, penalties can still be severe
Alcohol Effects
- Alcohol is a depressant
- Also acts as an anesthetic in the central nervous system
- Absorbed quickly from the stomach and small intestine into the blood stream 20-40 minutes
- 1 hour for the body to fully oxidize 1 typical alcohol drink

- Drink slowly
- Doesn’t to get drunk
- Eat before/ while drinking
- Never drives
- Respect non-drinkers
- Know and obey laws related to drinking
Problem Drinker
- Drink to get drunk
- Solve problems by getting drunk
- Changes in mood/ personality
- Drink when they shouldn’t
- Causes problems for others by harming self
Alcoholics
- 1/3 of problem drinkers progress to alcoholic
- Progression may take years
- Young people may move through stages more rapidly
- Spend time thinking about drinking
Implied Consent Law
Anyone arrested for driving under the influence shall be deemed to have given consent to a chemical or breath test
Zero Tolerance Law
