what is at risk of happening with a rhesus negative mother
A
child might be rhesus positive, baby blood will get into mothers blood
-> mother becomes sensitised to rhesus D antigens
during next pregnancy mothers rhesus- D antibodies pass on to fetus causing haemolytic disease of newborn

management of rhesus negative mother
A
give IM anti-D injections to rhesus D negative women
- 28 weeks gestation and at birth

direct coombs test
A
direct antiglobulin test with demonstrate antibodies on RBCs of baby
