What is the pathophysiology of rhabdomyolysis?
A
rapid breakdown of skeletal muscle leads to acute tubular necrosis

What can cause rhabdomyolysis?
A
Crush injury Strenuous exercise ge seizure Medications- statins, SSRIs, diuretics Drug abuse Others

What is the presentation of rhabdomyolysis?
A
Dark brown tea coloured urine= classic AKI with disproportionately raised CK Muscle pain Weakness Vomiting Confusion

What investigations are done for rhabdomyolysis?
A
URinalysis- haematuria, red cell casts Bloods: -CK >1000 -hypocalcaemia -hyperphosphataemia, hyperkalaemia -metabolic acidosis

What is the management of rhabdomyolysis?
A
Large volume IV fluids
Corret electrolyte abnormalities
-Hyperkalaemia= IV calcium gluconate, insulin-dextrose
Severe= dialysis

What are some complications of rhabdomyolysis?
A
AKI
Electrolyte abnormalities
DIC
