Explain in detail two reasons why some people claim prisons work

P- It keeps the public safe
E- One of the aims of prison is to protect the public from those that pose risk to society
E- The public wouldnt be safe if people who had murdered and raped were still allowed to roam the street without being sent to prison for a period of time in order to rehabilitate them

P- It deters people from committing crime
E- Most people in the country would not like to be sent to prison as a punishment therefore it stops people from committing crimes
E- If someone was to be sent to prison they wouldnt be able to do whatever they wanted, wouldnt see their family much and could make it difficult to get a job when they are
released from prison
