A

P-No Lives, Better Lives initiative.
E- This programme educates young people about the dangers of carrying a knife and the consequences it can have on their future.

E- Over the ten year period from 2009-10 to 2018-19, the number of homicide cases in Scotland fell by 25% (20 cases) from 80 to 60.

Q

Two ways the government has been ineffective in tackling crime

A

P- There is a knife crime epidemic in London.
E-The London Major introduced the Mayor’s Knife Crime Strategy in June 2017 which aimed to target people who carry knives, take weapons of the streets and educate young people to prevent knife crime.
E- This has not worked because 40 knife offences a day were reported to the police and a person was knifed to death on average every four days in London in 2017 and 2018.

P-Lowering the drink drive limit in Scotland.
E-In December 2014 the Scottish government reduced the legal alcohol limit for driving from 80mg to 50mg in every 100ml of blood with the aim of reducing road traffic accidents and injuries/fatalities.
E-Research by the University of Strathclyde in 2018 showed that the lowered legal limit has had little effect on the number of road fatalities.
