Describe in detail two roles of the police in scotland
P- Protect the public
E- The police do this by ensuring they catch criminals that are a danger to society and that people are safe
E- There will be police presence at big events such as TRNSMT, football games and demonstrations
P- Prevent crime
E- The police will patrol the area and use CCTV to deter people from committing crimes such as CCTV evidence can be used to identify perpetrators
E- Someone is unlikely to assault someone in front of police officers as they would be arrested
Describe in detail 2 powers of the police in Scotland
P- Stop and search people
E- The police can stop, question and search a person they believe is committing a crime or has committed a crime.
E- The police can stop someone they think is carrying an offensive weapon such as a knife, stolen property or drugs
P- Detain suspects at the police station
E- This will allow the police to question them about what they know about a crime for up to 12 hours before charging them if they have enough evidence.
E- If they suspected that someone murdered someone then they could question them at the station to try to get more evidence that they did it.
