Response Time. Flashcards
Hick's Law. Single Channel Hypothesis. Psychological Refractory Period.
Define Reaction Time.
The time between the start of a stimulus. The onset of a stimulus and the initiation of the response.
Define Movement Time.
The time between the start of the movement and it’s completion.
Define Response Time.
Time from the onset of the stimulus to the completion of the movement.
List ways to Improve Response Time.
- improve focus and concentration.
- train for specific stimuli.
- improve fitness.
- mental practise.
- anticipation.
Define Simple Reaction Time.
One stimulus and one response.
Define Choice Reaction Time.
Numerous stimuli and numerous responses.
Explain Hick’s Law.
As the amount of choices increases so does the reaction time. Not always linear lines. Due to players becoming familiar with the task, meaning the response becomes slightly quicker.
Explain Single Channel Hypothesis.
Suggests that the brain can only deal with one piece of information at a time. When it receives several pieces in rapid succession, a bottleneck is formed causing increase in response time.
Define Attentional Narrowing.
Restriction of Attention in high stress situations to a small set of critical displays.
Explain the Psychological Refractory Period.
A delay is when a second stimulus is presented before the first has been processed.
Explain Anticipation.
prejudging a stimulus.
Explain the types of Anticipation.
Temporal: when it is going to happen?
Spatial: Where and what it is given to happen?
