What are the Nasal Septum?
A Midline Divider That Separates the Left Nasal Passage From the Right.
What are Turbinate (Nasal Conchae)?
They are Thin, Scroll-like Bones Covered with Nasal Epithelium That Occupy Most of the Lumen of the Nasal Passages.
What is a Nasal Meatus?
The Three Main Passageways in the Nasal Passage.
What are Paranasal Sinuses?
Usually Just Called Sinuses, They are Outpouchings of the Nasal Passages That are Contained Within Spaces in Certain Skull Bones.
What are the Major Cartilages in the Common Animal Species?
A Single Epiglottis, the Paired Arytenoid Cartilages, the Single Thyroid Cartilage, and the Single Cricoid Cartilage.
What is the Glottis?
The Opening into the Larynx. The Arytenoid Cartilages and the Vocal Cords Form the Boundaries.
What are the False Vocal Cords, or Vestibular Folds?
They are Present in the Larynx in Addition to the Vocal Cords. They are a Second Set of Connective Tissue Bands in Nonruminant Animals.
How Does a Cough Happen?
The Glottis Suddenly Opens, and a Forceful Release of Air Leaves the Body.
What is the Bifurcation of the Trachea?
It Occurs at About the Level of the Base of the Heart. It Divides the Larynx Through the Neck Region into the Thorax. It Then Divides into the Two Main Bronchi.
What is in the Lower Respiratory Tract?
It Starts in the Bronchi, and Ends with the Alveoli. It Includes al the Air Passages in Between.
What is the Bronchial Tree?
They are Air Passageways that Leads From the Bronchi to the Alveoli.
