Respiratory Protection Program Flashcards
_______ is responsible for administering the
Respiratory Protection Program
Health Programs Battalion Chief (BC)
Responsible for ensuring subordinates comply with the requirements set forth within this document.
Supervisors
Duties of supervisor include:
- Ensuring supervised employees receive appropriate training, fit testing, medical evaluations, and proper respiratory protection.
- Recognizing the variety of inhalation hazards and the use of respiratory protection, including proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage.
- Monitoring work areas and operations to identify respiratory hazards.
- Advising the program administrator of respiratory hazards and employees having trouble with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Individual requests for fit testing should be directed to:
The air shop
How do you request a loaner face piece?
Safo or air shop
Upon fire extinguishment and in the absence of visible smoke, the SAFO will begin atmospheric air monitoring of the Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) area. Any entry into the IDLH will require continued use of an SCBA.
Phase I
For 90-minutes all personnel entering the previous IDLH environment must continue to wear SCBA or SABA when conducting overhaul and/or cause and origin determination. The SAFO will continue air quality monitoring to ensure no change
occurs causing the re-establishment of an IDLH.
Phase II
If further overhaul is deemed necessary, respiratory protection is still required. However, the level may be downgraded at the discretion of the incident commander. Fire investigators may transition to their twin cartridge full facepiece respirator and field operations personnel may continue to wear the SCBA or may
transition to an N-95 particulate respirator mask.
Phase III
SCBA Pak Number System
- Each Air-Pak has a four-digit identifying number.
- The first two digits represent the station number (01 – 42).
- The third and fourth digits represent the Pak number for that station (01 – XX).
- Any Air-Pak with an “F” after the fourth digit signifies a Federal Emergency
Management Agency Air-Pak. - “RIT” and the three-digit unit number (e.g., RIT401 or RIT426) identifies RIT
Air-Paks. - Staff assigned Air-Paks are 6XXX.
- Fire and Rescue Academy Air-Paks are 07##.
- Air shop loaners are 99##.
AIT Scheduling
- Air-Paks are due for an AIT when the last two digits of the Air-Pak number correspond to the two-digit monthly number, (e.g., All Air-Paks with the last two digits 01 are due for AIT in January; Air-Paks with the last two digits of 11 are due for AIT in November). For Air-Paks with the last two digits higher than 12, January starts over with Air-Pak number 13.
- The air shop will coordinate AIT for Air-Paks with numbers higher than 24.
- Air-Paks numbered 01 through 12 are sent to the air shop with Service One in the
first week of the month. Remove the air bottle from the Pak. - Air-Paks numbered 13 through 24 are sent to the air shop with Service One in the third week of the month. Remove the air bottle from the Pak.
To determine the expiration date of hydrostatic testings, add_______ years to the most recent test date stamped on the cylinder.
