Albuterol (Proventil, Ventolin)
Dose/Route
2.5 mg in 2.5 to 3mL NS via nebulizer repeat as needed.
Hyperkalemia 20-30mg nebulizer

Atrovent
Atrovent
Another Name
Ipratropium
Ipratropium (Atrovent)
Class
anticholinergic
Ipratropium (Atrovent)
Description
Bronchodilator used in the treatment of respiratory emergencies that causes bronchodilation and dries respiratory tract secretions by blocking acetylcholine receptors
Ipratropium (Atrovent)
Indications
Bronchospasm associated with asthma, COPD and inhaled irritants
Ipratropium (Atrovent
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to atropine or derivatives, or as primary treatment for acute bronchospasm. Nut allergy

Lasix
Another Name
Furosemide
Furosemide (Lasix)
Class
Diuretic
Furosemide (Lasix)
Description
Rapid acting, potent diuretic and antihypersensitive that inhibits sodium reabsorption by the kidney. Its vasodilating effects reduce venous return and cardiac workload.
Furosemide (Lasix)

Acute Pulmonary Edema (CHF)
Furosemide (Lasix)
Contraindications
Hypotension
Furosemide (Lasix)
Precautions
Infants, elderly, hepatic impairment, cardiogenic shock associated with acute MI, gout, or patients receiving digitalis or potassium-depleted steroids.
Furosemide (Lasix)
Dose/Route
40-120 mg slow IV or could cause tinitis
Pedi: 1 mg/kg slow IV

Magnesium
Magnesium Sulfate
Class
Electrolyte
Magnesium
Description
Electrolyte that acts as a calcium channel blocker, acting as CNS depressant and anticonvulsant. It also depresses the function of smooth, skeletal and cardiac muscles
Magnesium
