Q

Plasma Protein Fraction (Plasmanate)

Description

A

Protein containing colloid that remains in the intravascular compartment. It in creases intravascular volume by attracting water from other fluid compartments by virtue of its colloid osmotic pressure

Q

Dextran

Description

A

Sugar containing colloid used as an intravascular volume expander. It remains in the intravascular compartment for approximately 12 hrs. Increases intravascular volume by attracting water from other fluid compartments by virtue of its colloid osmotic pressure

Q

Hetastrach (Hespan)

Description

A

Starch containing colloid used as an intravascular volume expander. Following administration the plasma volume is expanded slightly in excess of the volume of hetastarch administered. This effect has been observed for up to 24-36 hrs. Increases intravascular volume by virtue of its colloid osmotic pressure.
