pulmonary circulation: explain the structure and function of the double circulation of the lungs
1
Q
structure of double circulation system of lungs
A
pulmonary artery carry deoxygenated blood from right ventricle to lungs for oxygenation → pulmonary veins carry freshly oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium → bronchial circulation takes blood from the left side of the heart to oxygenate the parenchyma → blood returned to pulmonary veins
2
Q
2 functions of double circulation system of lungs
A
ensures oxygenated and deoxygenated blood do not mix, allows for a lower pressure in the pulmonary circulation to prevent hypertension and oedema
