Respiratory Flashcards
What does a Rhinotomy involve?
dorsal incision on top of dogs nose, opening nasal cavity
What can be used instead of Rhinotomys?
endoscopic equipment
What are post-op considerations for Rhinotomys?
emphysema- permanent lung condition- head/neck
excessive bleeding- adrealine, compact bandaging
Irritation- sneezing
What does a Laryngeal Paralysis involve?
incision made on side of dogs neck, larynx
arytenoid is disarticulated- fixed in open position
incrwasing laryngeal opening, decreasing airway resistance
What are the potential considerations for a laryngeal paralysis?
swallowing function- oesphageal dysfunction
aspiration pneumonia- wider
feeding habits changed- smooth, easy digestible foods
What are the nursing considerations for a patient with a tracheostomy tube?
Managing airways- suctioning excess blood loss
Humified air- prevents drying and build-up of mucous
Secured positioning- prevents movement and risk to larynx
Hygiene- sterile equipment, every 30mins, hyperthermia, discharge, swelling
Nebulisation- sterile saline/ adrenaline
