Intraocular Pressure Flashcards
Considerations for intraocular pressure-
assessing pain and admininster analgesics- avoid emetic drugs
elizabethan collar/ foot bandaging
Blind patient considerations-
reassurance, slower, light tone
showing where food/ water is
assisted feeding
placing cats in litter tray
What are the factors that increase IOP?
coughing/ barking
pulling on lead
rectal temperature
jugular venepuncture/ restriant
placement of elizabethan collar
Coughing/ barking-
quiet area, DAP sprays, cover kennel
Rectal temperature-
not possible if patient is distressed/ panicked
Lead pulling-
chest harness, slip lead
Jugular venepuncture/ restriant-
IOP rises as jugular vein pressure
Elizabethan collar-
occlude juglar vein, foot bandaging preffered
