Research methods Year 2 Flashcards
What are two ways of assessing reliability?
Inter-observer reliability and test-retest reliability
How can you improve reliability in an experiment?
Standard procedures
What is meant by face validity?
Does a measure appear to measure what it is supposed to measure.
What is meant by inter-observer reliability?
The extent to which there is agreement between two or more observers. Needs to be >0.8
What are 2 ways to assess validity?
Face validity, concurrent validity
What is a strength of using a case study?
Allows predictions to be made, in-depth information about individual or group.
What is a correlation co efficient?
Allow the direction and strength of correlation to be expressed
What type of data is content analysis used for?
Qualitative (written, like transcripts)
What is the standard P level used in psychology test?
0.05
What does a null hypothesis suggest about the results of a study?
That the results will not be significant (there will be no results)
What are the 3 levels of data?
Nominal, ordinal, interval
What are the justifications for conducting a Sign test?
Related design, nominal data and testing for a difference.
What are the justifications for conducting a Mann Whitney U test?
Unrelated design, ordinal data and testing for a difference.
What are the justifications for conducting a Wilcoxon T test?
Related design, ordinal data and testing for a difference.
How can you tell if the study in the stem is a correlation or a test for difference?
Correlation has co variables (uses words association, relationship)
Test for difference has IV and DV
