research issues Flashcards
extraneous variable
any variable other than the iv that could effect the dv if not controlled, they do not vary systematically with the iv.
confounding variable
any variable other than the iv that can effect the dv, however it varies systematically with the iv and so it is had to tell what is effecting the dv, the iv of the cv.
demand characteristics
any cue from the researcher or research situation that could be interpreted as the the aim of the study, through experimental design or investigator effects, that change the natural behavior of the pps
investigator effects
any effect on the researchers behavior, conscious or nonconscious, that effects the outcome of the dv.
eg design of study, interactions, physical appearance.
randomization
the use of chance methods to control for effects of bias when designing an investigation and order of experimental conditions.
