pilot study Flashcards
what is a pilot study
a small scale trail run of the investigation before it takes place, the aim is to make sure procedures, materials and measurements are working, this allows for the researcher to make changes and improvements.
where are pilot studies used other than experiments ?
self report techniques, questionnaires, interviews to check there are clear questions , they are not double negative, not two questions in one, no jargon and not too long.
single blind procedure
the participants are unaware of the condition in which they are using, but the researcher will know which participant has which condition.
double blind trail
both the researcher and the participant do not know which condition the pps have, a third party will come in a nd set up the study.
control groups
used to make sure the effect of the dv is due to the iv manipulation and not any confounding of extraneous variables
