what are factors that affect daycare
Quality of care - such as low staff turnover, high staff to child ration and staff training
Individual differences - some children are able to cope with separation better than others, shy children may obtain more adverse affects.

-Sylva did a longitiudinal study on 3000 UK children. -home schooled children acted as a control group and the study showed:
-they found the earlier the child started day care, the better the intellectual improvement.
- positive effects were still evident in key stage 1

- they conducted a longitudinal study on 119 Swedish children up to their 8th birthday.
- the children that attended day care had more friends and were more socially outgoing.

- they drew findings from 2 longitudinal studies
- they found that there was a higher incidence rate of Type A children who were in day care more than 20 hours a week

- they found that children in more intensive times at day care had more behavioural problems such as aggression
