this is a body that regulates psychologists. individual must meet all the standards of proficiency to register.
what are the standards of HCPC
- registration involves being able to provide a suitable reference
- providing information about your general health especially issues that can affect the ability to practise
- need to act in the best interest of the user
- respecting the privacy of a client
- must be educated and have the qualifications needed to register.
what is grounded theory
is the process of gathering the data first without ht hypotheses and then analysing it to come up with a theory
what is coding in grounded theory
process for both categorising qualitative data and describing the implications of these categories.
what is memoing in grounded theory
process of recording the thoughts and ideas of the researcher during the study. these can get more focused overtime
what is integrative diagrams in grounded theory
used to pull all the data together to help make sense of the data.
strengths of grounded theory
- in depth, find correlations which may not have been found out other wise
- has creative allowance, new ideas can emerge.
weaknesses of grounded theory
- consumes a lot of time
- can be very subjective
- not as scientific as not falsifying a theory rather, can be seen try prove.
what is content Analysis
indirect way of investigating meaning and messages in a variety of forms of communication
procedure of content analysis
- a hypothesis is generated about a topic.
- the whole article is read to get the gist.
- main points are summarised into themes for coding frames to be generated.
- a summary is written based on the main points.
strengths of content analysis
- inferential tests can be used as quantitative data is collected
- high ecological validity as based on real life articles
- reliable as the articles are permanent
weaknesses of content analysis
- subjective as categories are chosen by the researcher
- the research is limited to already existing articles.
- findings are usually culture dependent as interpretation can be affected by culture and language.
