Replication Of DNA Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the process of DNA replication
A
- an enzyme unzips the DNA molecule, exposing the nitrogen base codes(a g c t)
- exposed strands then act as a template or pattern for the construction of a new molecule
- DNA polymerase works its way along the unzipped molecule, and adds new nucleotides to the exposed ones(a:t g:c)
2
Q
Describe the process of transcription
A
- DAN unwinds at relevant section
- mRNA nucleotides combine to construct a complementary strand
- RNA polymerase AIDS this process and only one strand of DAN is copied
3
Q
Describe the process of translation
A
- mRNA travels out of nucleus into cytosol and to ribosomes
- each anticodon on tRNA base codes for one amino acid
- tRNA with attached amino acid travels to mitochondria
- tRNA anticodon attaches to mRNA codon
- each amino acid is joined to the next base on codon sequence
- continues until the correct number of amino acids are produced, than released as proteins
4
Q
Transcription and translation are the two stages of what process?
A
Protein synthesis
5
Q
What is DNA replication?
A
The process that creates a new identical DNA molecule
