From week 9 of development through to birth

A
- doubles in size
- body strengthens
- fingernails, toenails and hair appear
- mother starts to show a bump

A
- uterus expands
- foetus grows to 18cm long and weighs 100 g
- fingerprints appear
- mother may feel foetal movement

At 20 weeks what occurs?
A
- foetus grows to 25cm long and weighs 300g
- kicking and turning can be clearly felt by mother

At 28 weeks of development what occurs?
A
- foetus goes to 38cm long and weighs 1000g
- Brain shows developed areas
- testes descend in scrotum in males

At 40 weeks what events take place?
A
- foetus is ready for birth
- foetus becomes cramped
- grows to 50cm long and weighs 2500-4500g
- foetus turns to head down position
- foetus gains antibodies from mother
