Male Reproductive System Flashcards
What is the scrotum?
Pouch of skin that holds testes outside the body. Temperature regulation(2’C cooler than body temperature).
What are the testes?
When sperm are produced and stored. Held and supported in the scrotum
What is the vas deferens?

What is the seminal vesicle?
Produce majority of seminal fluid
What is the prostate gland?
Secretes part of seminal fluid, located at the base of the bladder
What is the urethra?
Transports both urine and sperm(not at the same time) through penis and out of body
What are the Bulbourethral glands?
Secrete clear lubricant fluid, joins into the urethra
What is the penis?
Contains lots of erectile tissue, lots of blood supply and spongy connective tissue. The wee tile tissue fills with blood during sexual arousal. The penis becomes erect so it can be inserted into the vagina
What is semen?
Released form penis during ejaculation. Contains sperm and secretions from glands
What are the secretions from glands found in semen?
Thick fluid that is rich in sugars from the seminal vesicles, thin milky alkaline fluid from prostate gland and clear slippery fluid from Bulbourethral glands(cowper’s glands)
What are the functions of the male reproductive system?
- production of sperm in testes
- storage of speed in testes
- production of semen
- penetration of vagina
- ejaculation of sperm into female reproductive tract
