Renal Pathology 3 Flashcards
Describe the Gross morphology of Malignant hypertension
Kidneys appear to have small petechiae.
Describe the Histopathology of Malignant hypertension
In larger arterioles, there is an onion like apperance of hyperplastic arterioscelrosis. Microthrombi and necrosis seen.
What is the pathogenesis of Renal Artery Stenosis?
Reduced renal blood flow from stenosis activates RAAS, increasing blood pressure
What is the Gross Morphology of Renal Artery Stenosis?
Kidneys are small with diffuse ischemic atrophy. Affected kidney shows mild hypertensive changes; Unaffected kidney shows significant hypertensive changes.
What is the Histopathology of Renal Artery Stenosis?
Athermatous plaque
What is the clinical feature of Renal Artery Stenosis?
Increased Renin in the plasma and renal vein.
What is the Gross morphology of Embolic Renal Disease?
Pale white-yellow areas with a rim of red; Wedge-shaped
What is the Histopathology of Renal Disease?
Coagulative Necrosis
Describe Typical Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome
Typically in children;
- Occurs after E.coli infection
- Presents with GI or Flu-like symptoms.
How is Atypical Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome different from Typical ?
- Typically in adults
- Not following infection
- Progresses to ESRD
Discuss Thrombotic Thromobocytopenia Purpura
Deficiency of ADAMTS13 protease; Prevents cleavage of vWF and inhibts platelet activation. Presents with thrombocytopenia
What is the gross morphology of Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease?
Massive enlargement of both kidneys with no identifiable parenchyma
What is the gross morphology of Child Polycystic Kidney Disease?
Small cysts in cortex and medulla giving sponge like appearance; Cysts have cuboidal lining
What is the gross morphology of Medullary sponge kidney?
Multiple small cystically dilated collecting ducts in medulla
What is the morphology of Nephronophitsis-Medullary Cystic Disease?
Small contracted kidneys with multiple cysts at corticomedullary junction. Presents with polydipsia and polyuria.
