Renal: Fluid Management and Renal Filtration Flashcards

1
Q

what is the pathway through the nephron?

A

glomerulus – space of Bowman’s capsule – proximal convoluted tubule – descending loop of Henle, ascending loop of Henle – distal convoluted tubule – collecting duct

Q

what is hydrostatic pressure in Bowman’s capsule?

A

afferent tubule coming into the glomerulus with high hydrostatic pressure – fluid being pulled out of the capillary

Q

what is oncotic pressure in Bowman’s capsule?

A

high amounts of solutes left in the capillary, pulling fluid in to balance out

Q

how do overuse of NSAIDs cause kidney injury?

A

prostaglandins cause vasodilation in the kidneys
NSAIDs block prostaglandin production which can lead to decreased blood flow to the kidneys

Q

where does filtration occur in the kidneys? what kinds of particles are filtered?
