involved in construction is who specialises in ortho devices, as various components used are specific to this dental discipline + not with other protheses
Study models + working models
are cast from imps + latter set are used to construct acrylic bases for each appliance, or for just 1 appliance. the additional components that can then be added to the acrylic base are:
Adams crib
to retain appliance in mouth, usually fit onto molar or premolar teeth + made of stainless steel
Springs
in a variety of designs to move teeth along arch as required
Retractors
to push one or several teeth backwards
Expansion screws
to move several teeth or each half of upper arch outwards
The equipment for monitoring + adjusting:
Adams crib pliers - to adjust all metal springs + retractors as necessary
Straight handpick + acrylic trimming bur
to adjust all acrylic areas of appliance as necessary
Measuring ruler
to record any measurable tooth movement such as overjet
Expansion screw key
to count number of turns applied to screw between visits, to ensure compliance by pt
