Crowding Flashcards
What is it caused by?
insufficient room for all teeth to erupt in line + occurs in jaws which are too small to accommodate 32 permanent teeth.
As the permanent dentition erupts
the teeth become crooked + overlapping as those which are normally last to erupt cannot take their proper position in dental arch as there is insufficient room left
Specific teeth
upper canines are usually displaced buccal, lower second premolars lingually + lower third molars are impacted within the bone of the mandible at the ramus
Early XLA of carious deciduous molars
also contributes to crowding. the gap left by an XLA soon closes, as remaining posterior tooth drifts forwards + takes up some of the space required for the permanent successor
