what plays roles in initiating relationships at school

A

your self-concept and self-esteem all play a role in how we will initiate relationships.

  • extrovert = strong self-concept and high self-esteem, finds it easy to relate to new people in a new environment
  • introvert = weak self-concept and low low self-esteem, finds it very difficult make new friendships.

HOWEVER there are combinations of personality type and levels of self-concept and self-esteem

describe the plant relationship

A

relationships are like plants. plants need soil, sunlight and water to grow well and to be healthy and strong. relationships need the following to thrive and be sustained:

  • soil = strong basics for the roots of the relationships
  • sunlight = warmth & caring for the relationship to be well
  • water = regular attention and looking after to grow

describe the communication tools used to disagree in a constructive way

A

Before the discussion:

  • don’t deal with issue while your upset
  • agree on a time that will suit both parties to discuss the issue
  • agree that you will stop the discussion if either party becomes upset.

During the discussions:

  • be on time
  • speak your truth
  • do not interrupt each other while talking
  • don’t accuse / blame the other person
  • state only facts
  • find aspects where you can compromise
  • decide whether you can accept the aspects where you cannot find compromise

After the discussion:

  • thank each other for being open and honest
  • respect and uphold your decisions.
