Rehabilitation Flashcards
What are the capabilities of rehabilitation
Prevent injury, and sure rapid healing, facilitate return to full strength and mobility, minimize formation of scar tissue to, relieve pain, return to or maintain optimal bodyweight
What are some common injuries that require rehabilitation
Fractures, luxation a, sprain, strain, hip dysplasia
What is a sprain
Ligamentous injury
What is a strain
Muscle or tendon injury
What are the three types of patients
Coach potato, weekend warrior, athlete
What are the common athletic injuries from flyball
Front limb injuries due to high impact, metacarpal fractures, medial shoulder luxation a, muscle sprains and strains
What are the common injuries from agility
Muscle strain and sprain, torn ligaments
What are the common injuries with disc dog
Back injuries, hindlimb injuries, torn cruciate ligament
What are common skijoring injuries
Torn ligaments, muscle sprains, twisted limbs
What are three other types of patients that come for rehabilitation
Arthritic, overweight, neurological
What does the low level laser do
Relieves acute and chronic pain, decreases inflammation, increases blood supply, releases tight muscles, speeds bone repair, repolarizes damage cell walls, helps repair damaged DNA
What does the ultrasound and post magnetic therapy do
Used to treat soft tissue injuries. Increases tissue cell metabolism promoting the healing of injuries. Decreases pain and speeds healing time
What is electronic stimulation
Using an electrical current to cause a group of muscles to contract. Strengthens the affected muscle, stimulates muscle memory, increases blood supply, speeds healing, reduces pain
What is a land treadmill used for
Excellent for weight loss, improved proprioception, improves gate, builds muscle mass, increases flexibility
What does the underwater treadmill do
Facilitates earlier return to function, reduces joint compression, decreases swelling of areas that are submerged due to hydrostatic pressure, builds muscle mass, safe controlled environment to exercise
What does massage do
Increases blood supply, eases sore muscles, decreases pain, strengthens immune system, decreases injuries by relaxing and stretching the muscles
What is a Gulik
Measuring tape which allows for accurate measurement of limbs buy a plane for ounces of tension
What is goniometer
Instrument used to measure angles
What are the physeal balls and peanut rolls used for
Used for proprioception, increase his balance and build up core and stabilizing muscles
What is the Cavaletti used for
Weight-bearing, proprioception, learning proper gate
What is the goal of rehabilitation
To restore, maintain, promote optimal function, fitness, wellness and quality of life as they relate to movement disorders and general health
