Redox Titrations Flashcards
Manganate ion
MnO4-
Colour change of MnO4- to Mn2+
purple -> colourless
How can we tell that a titration involving KMnO4 is complete?
Solution in conical flask turns purple.
Because MnO4- ions are now in excess and no longer being reduced to Mn2+.
Mole ratio of MnO4- to Fe2+
1 mole of MnO4- reacts with 5 moles of Fe2+
Mole ratio of MnO4- to H2O2
2 moles of MnO4- reacts with 5 moles of H2O2
Thiosulfate ion
S2O3 2-
Mole ratio of I2 to 2S2O3 2-
1 mole of I2 reacts with 2 moles of S2O3 2-
What indicator can we use for iodine/thiosulfate titration?
I2 is purple in presence of starch.
Starch can be used as an indicator.
Mole ratio of Fe2+ to Cr2O7 2-
1 mole of Cr2O7 2- reacts with 6 moles of Fe2+.
Colour change when Cr2O7 2- reduced to Cr3+
orange -> green
