what is the definition of recruitment?
process of finding and hiring the best - qualified candidate for a job opening in a timely and cost-effective manner
why is recruitment needed?
introduction of new placements (growth)
to replace employees who leave
fill skill gaps (wanted skills –(skill gaps)— employees you already have)
what are the 2 types of recruitment?
internal and external
describe internal recruitment?
using people already in the organisation - higher positions are advertised / job vacancy
advertisements sent to employees through various methods (email, newsletter or internet)
describe external recruitmnet?
using people outside the organisation, brings in a wider range of skills, different advertising used, candidates are new and have new ideas/ perspectives regarding the business
describe the recruitment process?
business identifies need to recruit new member of the business –> business writes job description —> business writes person specification —> business advertises job and interviews candidates
what is job analysis?
process to identify + determine, in detail, the particular duties + requirements + the relative importance of these duties for a given job
what can job analysis be used in recruitment process to identify?
job duties included in ads of vacant position + appropriate salary level for position
what is outlined in a person specification?
personal qualities, qualifications needed, work experience, skills
what is outlined in job description?
describes duties + responsibility describes day-to-day life
what are the benefits of good recruitment?
high productivity, high quality output, high quality customer service
what is staff retention?
ability to retain employees in a business + the want to keep valuable + contributing employees
