Recovery Process Flashcards
what is the purpose of the recovery process?
For returning the body to its state before exercise
what is meant by oxygen debt?
the amount of oxygen consumed during recovery above which would have ordinarily been consumed at rest in the same time
what are the two different types of oxygen debt?
fast replenish component (alactic acid component)
slow replenish component (lactic acid component)
what is oxygen deficit?
the volume of extra oxygen required to complete the entire activity aerobically
what occurs during oxygen deficit?
heat and breathing rate increase
what is the function of the alactic acid component of the o2 debt?
to restore the muscle phosphogen stores
what is the function of the lactic acid component of the o2 debt?
the process responsible for the removal of the lactic acid
how long does the body take to recover?
depends on duration and intensity
3 minutes to replace muscle stores
up to an hour to remove lactic acid
48 to fully replenish glycogen stores
what is the role of myoglobin?
acts as a temporary store for oxygen and helps transport o2 from the capillaries to mitochondria
why should you conduct a cool down?
helps return muscles back to their normal temperature slowly
aids the removal of waste products
prevents muscle pooling
helps provide a good supply of oxygen to the muscles
why should an rest after a day of exercise?
if the athlete has worked particular hard , their glycogen stores will take at least 24 hours to replenish
what are the difference between oxygen deficit and debt?
deficit- start of exercise, when the body takes time to adjust to the supply of oxygen to meet the body’s demands.
debt- is when exercise decreases and helps the body to return to its normal state
what does epoc stand for?
exercise
post exercise
oxygen
consumption
what does the recovery process need to occur?
ATP- energy
So knowing that recovery processes needs energy , when is it likely to occur?
during aerobic work, aerobic system used for recovery to occur , can happen at any point during or after a game when working aerobically
