Argument

Assumption
Evidence that connects authors evidence to conclusion based on that evidence
Bold Print
Intended to emphasize certain words in text
Conclusion
Opinion that author holds and supports with evidence
Connotative
Referring to a secondary or associative meaning of a word, raising a feeling about the word
Context
Words that are used with a certain phrase or word that help the reader determine its meaning
Denotative
Referring to the direct or explicit meaning of a word, Ex: dictionary key terms
Dictionary
Book that contains a selection of words with their meanings
Evidence
Explicit support the author provides for a claim that does not have to be inferred or assumed
Expository
Mode of writing in which the author intends to explain or inform
Figurative
Involving a figure of speech
