RBS70 Flashcards
What 5 parts make up the Missile in Container?
End caps Launcher tube Missile lock Missile launch motor Bolide missile
What provides storage and transport protection once the MiC is removed from the ISU?
Shock absorbing Cellular plastic End Caps and a Centre Pad
What activates the Bolide Missile thermal battery?
Depressing of the firing button
What makes the RBS-70 Bolide Missile man portable
Can be assembled in 30 seconds
Able to be broken into 3 parts - The Stand, Sight and Missile assembly
Describe the shape and dispersive effects of the casing of the warhead for the RBS70?
The casing has a convex contour to provide an effective dispersion of fragments both forwards and rearwards
What are the Launch and Sustainment Motor burn times?
LT - 40ms
Sustainment Motor - 4 seconds
How many tungsten spheres are in the Warhead of the RBS70?
3000
What does the explosive charge in the RBS70 warhead consist of?
475g Charge of Octol - HMX/ TNT
What enhances the thermal blast effect of the warhead?
Aluminium and Magnesium components in the fuselage
What does each of the Electronics packages (ELP) do?
ELP 1 - houses the CPU which provides control and guidance during activation, firing, flight and detonation
ELP 2 - Thermal battery, voltage converters, stabilisers used to produce electrical power
ELP 3 - Detects the guidance beam pulses from the sight, converts them to amplified signals and provides them to ELP 1
What does the slider interrupter do in the SAD in the Bolide?
The slider interrupter keeps the warhead initiator out of line prior to arming
What does MiC stand for?
Missile in Container
What features are included in the warhead design of the Bolide?
Multiple effects warhead combining blast, frag, and shaped charge
How is the Bolide missile guided, and what is it’s difference to legacy Missiles
Beam riding missile with longer range and shorter time-of-flight than older variants
What is the Guidance method of the RBS-70?
SACLOS
How does the Safe and Arm Device (SAD) prevent initiation?
It keeps the warhead initiator out of line prior to firing until arming conditions are met.
What are the detection ranges whilst in Proximity Fuse setting?
Minimum- 0.4m to 6m
Detonation range of 4m at 30% reflectivity at 20 degrees C
What are the three modes of operation of the proximity fuse?
Off - ground targets
Normal - delay used to engage large targets allowing missile to get closer (speed dependant)
Small target - uav or stand off weapons
How many lobes at what angle are there in the RBS70 Proximity fuze?
18 narrow lobes at 30 degrees angles, they are forward faced
On Proximity for the RBS70 what are the ranges?
Min 0.4
Max 6m
Typical 4m
What effects does the warhead provide?
Blast
Fragmentation
Shaped Charge
Combination of what enables RBS70 to initiate
Combination of Laser guidance and Proximity and impact Fuse
What additional layers are used in the warhead and what is contained in that layer which enhances frag effect for the Bolide?
A plastic layer around the steel casing containing approximately 3000 tungsten spheres to enhance frag
What does the Convex Contour of the warhead provide?
Effective fragmentation dispersion to both front and rear
NEQ of the RBS70 Bolide Missile?
5.34kg
How long does the Sustainer motor burn for?
4 seconds
What speed does the launch motor accelerate the missile to, when does it burn out and what does it consist of?
Accelerates to 50m/s
Burns out within the container (40ms)
Grain consists of 460g of DB Propellant
