15
Q

How does 12.7mm MP NM140 work?

A

On impact and the commencement of penetration, the nose of the projectile is compressed and the incendiary ignited.
As the projectile passes through the target, pressure continues to build within the nose and the incendiary composition ignites the HE.
With increased pressure build up, deflagration turns to detonation, producing blast and fragments.
The second incendiary charge then ignites and burns for approx. 1 second

A

the tip is 16mm of aluminium/ silver/ grey

22
Q

What is the colour of the projectile of cart .50 API-T M20?

A

Red 8mm from the tip, from 8mm to 16mm aluminium/ grey/ silver

23
Q

What is the primer type of the Cart 5.56mm M855?

A

M41- Boxer

24
Q

What happens on impact of the projectile from the cart .50cal API-T and API M20 with a target?

A

On impact with the target at high velocity, the incendiary composition ignites by adiabatic (compression) resulting in igniting any present flammable materials within the target area.

25
Q

What are the main differences between the cart .50cal API M8 and API-T M20?

A
  • Different propellant
  • M20 has tracer element
  • Markings of the projectile
26
Q

Describe the operation of the M855 from when the primer strikes the firing pin?

A
  • Firing pin strikes primer on base of cc
  • Priming mix crushed against anvil primer
  • Primer comp functions
  • Flash to propellant ignites it
  • Propellant starts to burn and produces gases which act on the base and drive it forward
  • Projectile driven forward
  • SPin is imparted on projectile by rifling
  • Provides stability in flight
  • On impact steel nose and lead core provide penetration
27
Q

How much and what type of armour can a M955 5.56 penetrate/

A

12mm type 3 RHA at 100m

3.5 standard NATO Plate at 600m

28
Q

7.62mm x 51 la .308 is authorized to use in what wpns?

A

SR98 MK11 MOD 0 SR 25 and the AWS covert

29
Q

What are the operating limits to the cart 7.62mm Lap?

A
  • A rate of not more than 5 rounds per min
  • Max fire duration of 4 minutes
  • Min 2 minutes cooling, with out a bolt
  • Limit 100 rounds fire before complete cleaning of weapon
30
Q

At what distance is the tracer ignited and how far does it go for?

A

5.56- M856- 153-875m
7.62 Dim Trace- M62- 140- 775m
.50 Cal- M20-
Training round- 7.62- 13- 800m

31
Q

What is the 9mm FX round designed for?

A

Close combat training

32
Q

What is the propellant in the .50 Blank?

A

AP-70N Double Based 2.9g

33
Q

What effect the spread of the shot no 5?

A

Hardness of the pellets- Deformed and change during firing and terminal effect of the pellet load.

34
Q

How is the 5.56mm round work?

A
  • Firing pin strikes primer on base of cc
  • Priming mix crushed against anvil primer
  • Primer comp functions
  • Flash to propellant ignites it
  • Propellant starts to burn and produces gases which act on the base and drive it forward
  • Projectile driven forward
  • SPin is imparted on projectile by rifling
  • Provides stability in flight
35
Q

What are the target effects of the 12.7 MP NM140?

A

Penetration
Incendiary
Blast
Fragmentation

36
Q

How is the tracer compound ignited in cart 7.62 tracer M65 single?

A

The heat generated from the ignition of the propellant ignites the tracer composition.

37
Q

How long does the tracer compound burn in a cart 7.62mm tracer M62 single?

A

Visable no greater than 140m and will burn out at approximately 775m

38
Q

What is the safety warning for use of the cart 9mm training FX marking rounds?

A
  • Min engagement distance 2m

PPE must be worn to mitigate risk of injury

39
Q

What is the use of the Cart 12g Birdfrite MK2?

Clear Plastic with red cracker internal

A
  • Dispersal of birds from ADF airfields

- Used by RAN to control crews of nearby vessels without threat of lethal force

40
Q

What is the intended use of the cart 12g crowd dispersal M1013?

A

To disperse, dissuade and incapacitate (stun and deter) rioter.

41
Q

Why is the cart 12g rifled slug rifled?

A
  • optium contact whilst reducing wear on barrel

- allow slug to pass through barrel without deformation

42
Q

Explain the functioning of a centre fired round?

A
  • On firing the pin strikes a bower type primer
  • Crushing the anvil against primer mixer
  • Ignites the compostiion and flashes through case holes into cart case
  • Propellant is ignited and the burning produces hot expanding gases
  • Gas acts on projectile base to drive it forward and on the cart case forcing it outwards producing a gas seal
