The first step is to add all of the numbers in your ratio together to get a total. You then need to find the quotient of the number that you are dividing, and the total of the ratio. The quotient is equivalent to one unit of the ratio. Multiply the quotient by each number in your original ratio. Remember to keep the order of your ratio the same.

Give an example of a simplified ratio in relation to 225:900

The HCF of 225 and 900 is 225. 225/225=1. 900/225=4. So the simplified ratio is 1:4.

Give an example of a divided ratio. Divide 500 in the ratio 1:4

The first step is to get to a ratio total. 1+4=5
The next step is find the quotient of the number you are dividing and the ratio total. 500/5=100
The next step is to multiply the quotient by the values in the original ratio. 1x100=100 4x100=400
So the new ratio is 100:500
