Graphs Flashcards
Who created the Cartesian Plane?
Rene Descartes from France in the 1600s
What does the Cartesian Plane consist of?
Two axes
What axes are on the Cartesian Plane?
The horizontal or X axis
The vertical or y axis
Where do the axes cross?
At a point in the centre called the origin. It is representative of zero.
How are points on the plane located?
By their x and y coordinates.
Which coordinates come first?
The x coordinates come before the y coordinates.
What do the axes do to the Cartesian Plane?
They divide it into four parts called quadrants.
What are the axes labelled with?
Both positive and negative numbers.
What is the Cartesian Plane?
It is a grid system used to draw graphs.
What is the equation for the y axis?
x=0
What is the equation for the x axis?
y=0
