Quadrilaterals Flashcards
What is a quadrilateral?
A quadrilateral is any two dimensional four sided shape.
What are the properties of a quadrilateral?
It has four sides
It has four angles
The sum of the interior angles is 360°
How can we classify quadrilaterals?
Into parallelograms and non-parallelograms.
How can we classify parallelograms?
Into rectangles, rhombi and squares.
What are the properties of parallelograms?
Opposite sides are parallel
Opposite sides are equal
Opposite angles are equal
Diagonals bisect each other (cut each other in half)
What are the properties of rectangles?
Opposite sides are parallel Opposite sides are equal Opposite angles are equal to 90° Diagonals bisect each other (cut each other in half) Diagonals are equal
What are the properties of rhombi?
Opposite sides are parallel All sides are equal Opposite angles are equal Diagonals bisect each other (cut each other in half) Diagonals bisect at 90° Diagonals bisect corner angles
What are the properties of squares?
Opposite sides are parallel All sides are equal Corner angles are equal to 90° Diagonals bisect each other (cut each other in half) Diagonals bisect at 90° Diagonals bisect corner angles Diagonals are equal
What are the properties of kites?
Have two pairs of adjacent sides that are equal
Have one pair of opposite angles that are equal
The shorter diagonal is bisected by the longer diagonal
Diagonals intersect at 90°
One diagonal bisects the corner angles
What are the properties of trapeziums?
One pair of opposite sides are equal
What are the properties of right angled trapeziums?
One pair of parallel lines
One right angle
What are the properties of isosceles trapeziums?
One pair of opposite sides is parallel
One pair of opposite sides is equal
Two pairs of adjacent angles are equal
How can we classify non-parallelograms?
Into kites and trapeziums
How can we classify trapeziums?
Into right angled trapeziums and isosceles trapeziums.
