Radius Flashcards
Head
round articular structure on the proximal end of the radius
Neck
slender segment of the radius between the head and the radial tuberosity
radial tuberosity (bicipital tuberosity)
blunt, rugose, variably shaped structure on the anteromedial side of the proximal radius
shaft
long, thin section between the radial tuberosity and the expanded distal end
nutrient foramen
exits the bone toward its distal end and is located on the anterior surface of the proximal half of the radius
interosseous crest
sharp medial edge of the radial shaft
oblique line
on the anterior surface of the shaft
spirals inferolaterally from its origin at the base of the radial tuberosity
pronator teres insertion
midshnaft roughening on the lateral surface
ulnar notch
concave articular hollow on the medial corner of the distal radius
It articulates with the distal end of the ulna
distal radial articular suface
articulates with carpal bones
styloid process
sharp projection on the lateral side of the distal radius
dorsal tubercle (Lister’s tubercle)
large tuberosity on the posterior surface of the distal radius
Siding: intact radius
ulnar notch is medial, the radial tuberosity and interosseous crest are medial, the dorsal tubercles are posterior and the styloid process is lateral
Siding: isolated proximal end
the tuberosity faces anteromedially
The medial portion of the proximal ulnar articular surface has the greatest proximodistal dimension
Siding: isolated shaft
interosseous crest is medial, the oblique line is anterior
Foramen exits distally and is situated anteriorly on the shaft
Posterolateral surface has the greatest rugosity at about midshaft
