Radioulnar Joints Flashcards
Name all of the radio ulnar joints
Distal radio ulnar joint, proximal radio ulnar joint and interosseous membrane.
In pronation and supination, what structure does the head of radius articulate with?
The capitulum.
What is pulled elbow?
This is where the radial head is pulled out of the annular ligament in children and this leads to either subluxation or dislocation.
What is the annular ligament?
This is a ring shaped ligament which forms a collar around the head of the radius in which it can articulate.
What is the difference between dislocation and subluxation?
In dislocation there is complete loss of contact between joint surfaces and with subluxation there is still partial contact between the two.
Between which structures does articulation occur at the distal radio ulnar joint?
The ulnar head articulates with the ulnar notch on the radius.
What is the significance of the synovial membrane of the distal radio ulnar joint extending superiorly?
It accommodates the twisting of the capsule which is required in pronation.
State four muscles involved in the movements of the radio ulnar joints.
Biceps brachii, Supinator, pronator teres, pronator Quadratus
State four muscles involved in the movements of the radio ulnar joints.
Biceps brachii, Supinator, pronator teres, pronator Quadratus
What is the sacciform recess?
This is at the distal radial ulnar joint and extends superiorly which allows twist in gif the joint capsule during supination and pronation.
