Situation (Cohesive
Situation:. As a quick service restaurant owner ( so we mainly sell Poke bowls and bubble teas) back in 2017 when I first opened the business. I was managing a team of 23 employees and overseeing end-to-end business operations, I faced an unprecedented challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic began spreading in the U.S. This was a critical moment for the food service industry, with many uncertainties around safety, operations, and customer behavior.
Task (Cohesive
My responsibility was to ensure the safety of my employees and customers while sustaining business operations in a rapidly changing environment. The challenge was to navigate these complexities proactively, ensuring the café remained operational and could adapt to the new reality.
Action (Cohesive
Action:
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation early, I took several proactive steps:
Safety Measures:
Introduced mandatory mask-wearing for employees.
Set up sanitizing stations across the café.
Trained employees on enhanced hygiene protocols and cleaning routines to ensure both their safety and customers’ trust.
Contactless Operations:
Transformed the grab-and-go setup by adding a contactless pickup shelf, ensuring minimal interaction for customers.
Delivery Partnerships:
Partnered with delivery platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats at the pandemic’s onset, negotiating favorable terms before demand surged.
Secured necessary equipment, such as tablets and printers, ahead of the shortages that later affected others in the industry.
Result (Cohesive
During my senior year in college, I identified/discovered/ stumbled upon a franchise opportunity with a bubble tea brand. The brand was still new and relatively unknown, that was like 10 years ago. Bubble tea wasn’t as trendy back then as it is today. Most people drank coffee, and some drank tea, but not many were familiar with bubble tea. i saw the potential of the product, and I wanted to be part of it. With a mix of ambition and faith, I signed the franchise agreement, poured my savings into the initial franchisee fee, it;s like I own the rights of opening in this specifc area and no one else can open except me. Then I developed a business plan, and started pitching the plan to friends and famalies and strangers who’s interested in the product. slowly but surel, I raised enough money to secure a lease and begin construction.
