Define questionnaire
A set of written questions used to retrieve data
Name 5 advantages of questionnaires
- Quick
- Reliable
- Large sample size
- Cheap
- Can retrieve quantitative and qualitative data
Name 3 disadvantages of questionnaires
- Closed questions lack detail
- Open questions are hard to analyse
- People may lie due to social desirability
What is an open question?
When an individual can give any answer they wish fora question
What is a closed question?
When an individual has a limited set of answers to choose from
What is a likert scale?
When participants are offered a scale of pre-coded responses given to what extent they agree/disagree
Give 2 strengths of closed questions
Produce quantitative data
Reliable
Give 2 weaknesses of closed questions
Lack validity as they can’t elabborate
Require interpretation from the resspondant (e.g. unsure) so again lack validity
Give 2 strengths of open questions
Can respond in depth and detail
Non-restrictive in response
Give 2 weaknesses of open questions
Don’t produce quantitative data - difficult to compare
Often not answered fully as they take more time
