What is competence in psychological research?
Understanding the importance of a person’s ability to function optimally
What is respect in psychological research?
To value the worth of all people with particular regard to their rights
What is integrity in psychological research?
Valuing the honesty and accuracy within research
What is responsibility in psychological research?
Being responsible to clients, the public and the profession of psychology

Who can’t give informed consent and who is used as an alternative?
Usually vulnerable groups such as children. To overcome this, others usually give consent for them (e.g. parents).
What is presumptive consent
When a group similar to the sample give consent on their behalf as they would want to take part in the study
Why can’t informed consent always be obtained?
Because if participants know the true nature of the experiment then the validity of the findings may decrease
