Presentation of pyloric stenosis?
A
Projectile vomiting in otherwise healthy child (non-bile stained)
- Typically occurring after each meal
- Increased frequency and severity as child grows
- Constant hunger
- Wt loss/poor weight gain

What is a consequence of pyloric stenosis?
A
Hypochloraemic metabolic alkalosis with low plasma potassium
(from vomiting acid stomach contents)

- Boys
- First borns
- Fam History

Diagnosis of pyloric stenosis?
A
-Test feed:
Pyloric mass or ‘olive’ palpable in RUQ
-US
-Barium meal

Management of pyloric stenosis?
A
- IV fluid for resuscitation and correct electrolytes
- Pyloromyotomy (muscle but not mucosa of pylorus is cut)
